Buffalo River Trail Crew

Fall ’26 Wrap-up

We had 6 people over the course of the week (with 3 of them being first-timers), logged 215 volunteer hours, cleared brush from about 17 miles of trail, repaired 165 feet of tread, and removed 15 trees from the trail. Of course, we also found items to add to the to-do list for future sessions. The weather was good overall even if a couple afternoons got a bit warm. The fall color seemed a bit browner than usual.

We spent one day scouting a new route for the BRT south of Walker Mountain Road, where it currently goes through a field that is often choked with lespedeza and is a maintenance headache. The complication is a piece of private property that we must go around by climbing to a higher elevation. I think we have a usable general path at the 2 ends but there is a 120’ bluff in the middle with no immediately obvious way to get a trail through it. We’ll get back out there after the leaves fall to look a bit harder.
